A Florida Highway Patrol pursuit took an unusual turn when the driver of a Chevrolet Silverado appeared to deliberately spin out a trooper’s patrol car using a PIT-style maneuver.<\/p>\n
The chase began after the truck was reportedly clocked at 98 mph in a 70-mph zone while weaving through traffic. When a marked FHP Dodge Charger activated its emergency lights and siren, the Silverado accelerated instead of stopping.<\/p>\n
Dashcam footage shows the truck continuing through traffic as the trooper closed the gap. A second FHP Charger soon joined the pursuit, and the suspect became increasingly confrontational, moving toward the patrol vehicles and damaging one cruiser’s push bar during a sideswipe.<\/p>\n
The situation escalated when the Silverado struck the rear side of a Charger, rotating the patrol car and forcing it out of the pursuit. The trooper was not seriously injured.<\/p>\n
The truck, however, was badly damaged in the collision. Its front passenger-side wheel detached, leaving the driver attempting to flee on three wheels with parts of the vehicle scraping the roadway.<\/p>\n
An unmarked FHP Charger ultimately ended the chase with a PIT maneuver. After the driver was taken into custody, officers reportedly found empty alcohol containers and used marijuana cigars in the Silverado, suggesting impairment may have played a role.<\/p>\n
