online fundraiser<\/a> that the boat was 27 feet long and was estimated to be going about 40 mph when it T-boned Jay’s jet ski.<\/p>\nJay is currently on a ventilator because of a collapsed left lung and because he breathed saltwater into his lungs, Campbell said. He lost his left eye after an attempt to save it through surgery failed.<\/p>\n
Campbell said Jay also has a broken left femur, nine fractures in his face and a 7-millimeter brain bleed. When he was brought to a trauma center shortly after the crash, Campbell said he was placed in a medically induced coma.<\/p>\n
Jay is now in an intensive care unit and is reportedly taking “a lot of medication” that Campbell says is causing him to drift in and out of sleep.<\/p>\n
“This has turned our lives upside down,” Campbell wrote in the fundraiser description.<\/p>\n
“Jay and I have a 4-month-old daughter together, and the trauma center is an hour away, so every trip back and forth adds more strain while we are trying to stay close to him and care for our baby,” he continued.<\/p>\n
According to Campbell, Jay is the household’s main source of income.<\/p>\n
He is asking for donations to help cover medical expenses, rent, other household bills, gas for the commute to the trauma center, food and additional expenses for their 4-month-old daughter.<\/p>\n
“Recurring donations would give us steady support as bills continue and Jay remains out of work, but one-time donations would also help us more than I can say,” Campbell wrote.<\/p>\n
The online fundraiser was created on Monday, Sept. 7.<\/p>\n
