Sorta Pretty Good is hosting its second Salsa con Ron<\/a> Latin dance party featuring Rum & Coke<\/a>, the three-person Afro-Caribbean all-vinyl DJ collective playing music from the \u201860s, \u201870s, and \u201880s. Think of the kind of tunes that spark a core memory that makes guests say: \u201cI haven\u2019t heard this song since I was at my grandma\u2019s,\u201d in the best, nostalgic way.\u00a0<\/p>\n Kress Contemporary once again opens its beautiful doors, atriums and balconies overlooking Ybor City\u2019s old bricks to bring people together for a day party full of music, dancing, dominoes, food by Chicken and Pig<\/a>, along with plenty of margs and mojitos to go around. The DJ collective entrusted with spinning the good stuff is renowned in its world, holding one of the longest running residencies in Miami, happening monthly at Dante\u2019s for the past five years.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cThey\u2019ve played VIP parties at the World Cup, and this last one we did at the end of May was their first time coming to Tampa\u201d Sean O\u2019Brien, one half of Sorta Pretty Good, told Creative Loafing Tampa Bay. \u201cThey tag in and out and play for five hours straight. You name it, they can do it.\u201d<\/p>\n On a big open balcony that holds 30-40 people, people from all walks of life\u2014from 18-year-old kids to folks in their 70s\u2014were vibing, playing dominoes, moving, grooving, and having a good old time.\u00a0<\/p>\n Sandra Aguilar-Carson, baker and owner of WeVegan Cafe<\/a> and a regular at Iroko Dance Academy told CL: \u201cThis is literally like a Latin party.\u201d Aguilar-Carson\u2019s girlfriends from the Latin dance studio showed up and asked her: \u201cWhere did you find these guys?\u201d after hearing the collective\u2019s deep cuts they were pulling out at the last one.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s like a house party at your aunt\u2019s house with good food, good drinks, and open windows,\u201d she added.\u00a0<\/p>\n Speaking of food, new joint Chicken and Pig (of Ichicoro\u2019s Noel Cruz and King of the Coop\u2019s Joe Dodd) will be offering up lechon sandwiches and beans and rice for anyone looking to grab a bite.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cThis particular event is really special,\u201d Effren Denson, Sorta Pretty Good\u2019s other half, told CL. \u201cIt\u2019s really something different. And it\u2019s important right now, especially for Ybor. Ybor\u2019s kind of got this cloud hanging over it with the closing of Crowbar; I love Ybor during the day.
