{"id":396501,"date":"2026-09-11T03:34:08","date_gmt":"2026-09-11T03:34:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/396501\/"},"modified":"2026-09-11T03:34:08","modified_gmt":"2026-09-11T03:34:08","slug":"city-of-miami-commissioners-vote-to-keep-city-hall-in-coconut-grove-wsvn-7news-miami-news-weather-sports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/396501\/","title":{"rendered":"City of Miami commissioners vote to keep City Hall in Coconut Grove &#8211; WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">MIAMI (WSVN) &#8211; While scores of City of Miami government offices are set to move to a shiny new facility in a couple of years, some will remain at Coconut Grove after a Thursday vote by commissioners. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">City commissioners voted 4-1 to keep the existing historic facility on Pan American Drive in Dinner Key as City Hall. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The historic property has been home to City Hall for the last 70 years. Earlier on Thursday, preservationists and members of the public <a href=\"https:\/\/wsvn.com\/news\/local\/miami-dade\/commissioners-residents-voice-support-for-keeping-miami-city-hall-as-city-plans-move-to-miami-freedom-park\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">urged city leaders<\/a> to consider the significance of the current location. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis is a very cool place to come have public meetings. It\u2019s unique anywhere in the United States, I don\u2019t know a better spot,\u201d said area resident John Dolson. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">District 2 commissioner Damian Pardo introduced a measure to continue using the historic building for public use. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019ve filed legislation to keep this building an active public use and to keep City Hall here and regularly scheduled meetings,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, construction of the new City of Miami administrative building at Miami Freedom Park is already underway and it\u2019s expected to be completed by 2028. <\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 Sunbeam Television Corp.
