9\/11 memorial events planned across South Florida and the Treasure Coast<\/p>\n

Communities across South Florida and the Treasure Coast are coming together to remember the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks through a series of memorial ceremonies, stair climbs and tributes honoring those who lost their lives 25 years ago.<\/p>\n

Events include: <\/p>\n

Fort Pierce: The City of Fort Pierce will hold a 9\/11 remembrance ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park beginning at 9:45 a.m. Friday. The ceremony will include a special tribute to Fort Pierce native CeeCee Ross Lyles, a flight attendant aboard United Flight 93. A memorial observance is planned for 10 a.m., marking the time the plane crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.Lake Worth Beach: A 9\/11 Remembrance Ceremony will be held at Cultural Plaza on Lake Avenue beginning at 8:40 a.m. Friday. During the ceremony, a firehouse bell will ring 30 times in honor of those who lost their lives in the attacks.Port St. Lucie: City leaders and residents gathered Thursday morning for a Morning of Reflection ceremony at the Memorial Fountain at the MIDFLORIDA Event Center. The event honored the victims of 9\/11 and the first responders who answered the call.West Palm Beach: The West Palm Beach Fire Department is hosting its eighth annual 9\/11 Memorial Stair Climb on Friday. The event features a symbolic 110-story stair climb representing the World Trade Center towers, along with a 5K and a Hero Challenge.Boca Raton: Florida Atlantic University will host a 9\/11 memorial ceremony and stadium stair climb to honor the firefighters who climbed countless flights of stairs in an effort to rescue victims trapped inside the World Trade Center.Westlake: A new community group will host the city’s first annual 9\/11 remembrance ceremony. City leaders, law enforcement officers and other first responders are expected to attend.<\/p>\n

Twenty-five years after the attacks, local ceremonies continue to honor the nearly 3,000 people killed on Sept. 11 and recognize the courage shown by first responders and everyday Americans in the face of tragedy.<\/p>\n
