\nCORAL GABLES, Fla. (SMU) \u2013 The SMU women’s soccer team fell 2-1 on the road to Miami in the team’s ACC opener.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It was a defensive game as both teams combined for 11 shots, but the Mustangs (5-2-2, 0-1-0 ACC) were unable to capitalize in the second half. Londynn Hagan<\/a> scored her fourth goal of the season late in the second half to give SMU a chance, but it was not enough as Miami (6-1-1, 1-0-0 ACC) grabbed the win.<\/p>\n

The Mustangs’ seven-game unbeaten streak came to an end, the longest since 2022, in a physical game that saw three cards handed out as Miami led the foul differential 11-9.<\/p>\n

Brooke Bunton<\/a> led SMU in shots with two, Hagan scored the team’s only goal, and Aubrey Brown<\/a> finished the game with two saves.<\/p>\n

After a scoreless first half, action picked up in the 57th minute as Kaylee Noble<\/a> broke free and was fouled from behind just outside the box. On the ensuing free kick from 19 yards away, Bunton’s shot went wide, and the game remained even.<\/p>\n

With the momentum in favor of the Hurricanes, Miami scored the game’s first goal in the 64th on a ball kicked into the attacking zone off a free kick.\u00a0<\/p>\n

SMU, not giving up, continued to fight and generated runs at night and had a cross go off the crossbar with 20 minutes left in the contest, but Miami extended its lead after a Hurricane was fouled inside the box and converted the following penalty kick.<\/p>\n

Hagan answered for the Mustangs in the 84th minute sending a shot curling into the back of the net to give SMU a chance at evening this game in the final minutes. However, the Hurricanes stood tall and held on for the win.<\/p>\n

\n\tLondynn Hagan<\/a> is now second on the team in goals scored with four this season. <\/p>\n
