Congestion at Miami International Airport on Friday was easing even as many travelers were still experiencing delays five days after a deadly cargo-plane crash.<\/p>\n
The Federal Aviation Administration maintained its ground delay advisory for MIA, saying there was an average delay of 1 hour and 56 minutes \u201cdue to disabled aircraft on runway,\u201d said the regulator\u2019s website at 4:30 p.m.<\/p>\n
That\u2019s an improvement from the average delay of about four hours, the FAA reported earlier in the week.<\/p>\n
All flights were halted at Miami International Airport on Sunday, Sept. 6, after an Amazon cargo plane overshot its landing and crashed, hitting several vehicles and catching on fire. Five people were killed.<\/p>\n
The following day, the National Transportation Board arrived and has been investigating the crash of the Amazon Prime Air Boeing 767-300, operated by 21 Air. The aircraft remains on part of the runway.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have no timeline for the aircraft to be relocated,\u201d an MIA spokesperson told the Miami Herald on Friday.<\/p>\n
Currently, two of MIA\u2019s four runways, 8L and 9, remain fully open. The other two had been closed immediately following the crash. Now, runway 12 remains closed while 8R is partially open \u201conly for eastbound departures,\u201d the MIA official said. .<\/p>\n
MIA had no cancellations according to Flight Aware as of 4 p.m. Friday. The airport\u2019s own flight tracker showed only a handful of canceled flights, a big improvement from earlier in the week.<\/p>\n
However, flight delays continue.<\/p>\n
On Friday, MIA had 296 delays (121 departures and 175 arrivals), according to Flight Aware as of about 4 p.m.<\/p>\n
For those thinking of using Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport as an alternative, travelers there also face delays. FLL has had 187 delays on Friday, per Flight Aware, 111 departures and 76 arrivals.<\/p>\n
Travelers are encouraged to check on flight status with their airlines.<\/p>\n
