(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mysuncoast.com\/2026\/09\/11\/st-petersburg-woman-charged-with-arson-after-igniting-gasoline-gas-station-police-say\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.mysuncoast.com\/2026\/09\/11\/st-petersburg-woman-charged-with-arson-after-igniting-gasoline-gas-station-police-say\/\">WWSB<\/a>\/Gray News) &#8211; Authorities in Florida say a woman was hospitalized with major burns after a stranger set her on fire while she was pumping gas into her SUV.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The incident happened about 8 p.m. Thursday at a Mobil gas station in St. Petersburg.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">St. Petersburg Police say 41-year-old Eleanor Crawford walked up to the victim, also 41, as she pumped gas into her SUV and used a lighter to ignite the gasoline.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid mx-auto d-block\" fetchpriority=\"low\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Police said Eleanor Crawford, 41, approached the victim as she pumped gas into her Volvo SUV...\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/XXC2HNZEEFD53C2NK2DUIIKN7M.png\" width=\"980\" height=\"630\" \/>Police said Eleanor Crawford, 41, approached the victim as she pumped gas into her Volvo SUV and used a lighter to ignite the gasoline.(St.Petersburg Police)<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The victim was seriously injured, suffering second-degree burns, and was taken to the hospital. Her SUV and the gas pump were also engulfed in flames, police say.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Officers arrested Crawford a couple of blocks from the scene. She is facing charges of attempted murder and arson, according to online court records.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Police say Crawford didn\u2019t know the victim, and a motive has not yet been determined.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Crawford is being held on $350,000 bond.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 WWSB via Gray Local Media, Inc.
