Originally built in 1951, the home underwent a significant renovation and expansion in 2002, when Alexander added a new wing and second floor and brought local artisans and craftspeople into the project.<\/p>\n

Finding the right architect was an important part of that process.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I decided to expand the house, I went through several architects,\u201d Alexander said. \u201cMost wanted to add big columns and make it feel very imposing. Then I finally found an architect who understood me\u2014and I think you\u2019ll agree that when you pull up, this house smiles at you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Eight-foot double entry doors open into a foyer intentionally designed with enough scale for a baby grand piano or statement piece of art.<\/p>\n

Beyond the foyer, the main living space is filled with natural light, high ceilings, bamboo flooring and custom details. A wall of glass doors draws the eye toward the screened pool and outdoor living area, while the kitchen\u2019s tilework, cabinetry and built-ins continue the artistic character found throughout the residence.<\/p>\n

The first floor also includes a den, while the home\u2019s five bedrooms offer flexibility for family, guests or additional creative and work spaces.<\/p>\n

Outside, mature landscaping and Allendale\u2019s familiar tree canopy create a private setting while keeping the home convenient to downtown St. Petersburg, restaurants, parks, shopping and the waterfront.<\/p>\n

For Pedone, the appeal of the property goes beyond its individual design choices.
\u201cThere are beautiful houses, and then there are houses that stay with you,\u201d Pedone said. \u201cNancy\u2019s home is a beautiful house, and it\u2019s also one with a story. You notice something new every time you walk through it. There really isn\u2019t another one like it.\u201d<\/p>\n
