Cape Coral Fire Rescue confirmed the incident was a drowning.

Yvonne and Frank Torres, longtime residents of the neighborhood, said they had never seen such a large police presence near their home.

“I happened to be sitting in my living room, and all of a sudden, I noticed all these flashing lights. So I looked out, and I could see two fire trucks, an ambulance, maybe six cop cars, and all the lights were flashing. So I knew it had to be something serious,” Yvonne said.

The couple noted that the lake behind the home is not fenced in.

“And then I noticed cops keep going toward the back where the where the lake is. So I thought, maybe somebody drowned. And that’s about all I knew at that point,” Yvonne said.

Another neighbor, who spoke off-camera, shared that they initially heard what sounded like a child crying. At first, they thought it was their grandchild, but then they heard sirens.

Yvonne Torres said first responders were performing CPR on the child before the child was taken away in an ambulance.

The child was transported to Cape Coral Hospital, but their condition remains unknown at this time.

DOWNLOAD the free Gulf Coast News app for your latest news and alerts on breaking news, weather, sports, entertainment, and more on your phone or tablet.
