NORTH MIAMI, Fla. \u2014 A Facebook Marketplace sale went wrong in North Miami on Friday.<\/p>\n
According to an arrest report, Cornelius Douglas, 26, posed as a buyer for a $2,200 Cuban link chain.<\/p>\n
Police said that when he met up with the seller off Northwest 15th Avenue, Douglas showed the victim a fake Cash App payment confirmation.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe victim then placed the chain around the defendant\u2019s neck, believing he was already paid. The defendant asked the victim to record video of him on his phone wearing the chain,\u201d the report states.<\/p>\n
After that, he ran off with it, and it was then that the victim realized the payment was fake.<\/p>\n
Douglas was later identified in a photo lineup.<\/p>\n
According to North Miami police, Douglas did the same thing back in June.<\/p>\n
The report says he contacted a seller on Facebook for an Audemars Piguet watch. Police said he did the same thing and ran off with the watch.<\/p>\n
Police said \u201che sold the watch to a pawn shop for $300.\u201d<\/p>\n
Local 10 News checked into Douglas\u2019 background and found he has a criminal history, including a child abuse charge in Broward County. He has since been released on bond and is facing a grand theft charge.<\/p>\n
Police recommend that if you are buying something online, you meet in a public place. Most police departments have a safe zone to meet.<\/p>\n
