Former FBI agent stresses importance of taking Treasure Coast bomb threats seriously<\/p>\n

Five bomb threats reported in September on the Treasure Coast have not led to any suspicious findings, but a former FBI agent says each threat must be treated as real.<\/p>\n

Authorities are investigating five reported bomb threats on the Treasure Coast in September, including incidents at schools in Martin and St. Lucie counties and at HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital, with no suspicious items found in any of the cases. <\/p>\n

Investigators are working to determine if the five incidents are connected, with the FBI assisting in the process. <\/p>\n

“The bottom line is the threat has to be treated each and every time as real, and we have to try to trace back and apprehend and identify that individual or those individuals that ultimately may be behind it,” said Stuart Kaplan, a former FBI agent. <\/p>\n

Kaplan noted that if a threat originates from outside the United States, it is typically treated as a national security concern. With five reported threats on the Treasure Coast this month, he urged the public to remain vigilant. <\/p>\n

“We need to resist the temptation of becoming over desensitized by the violence, by the threats, by the false alarms,” Kaplan said. “Because when the bell rings, complacency or not being prepared is the difference between potentially saving your life or saving the life of a loved one. And as I say to everybody, you have to have a plan in place because you just never know when that bell will ring.” <\/p>\n
