<\/p>\n TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (September 14, 2026)\u00a0\u2013 The University of North Alabama volleyball team\u00a0suffered\u00a0its\u00a0first loss of the season\u00a0Monday, losing to ACC opponent Florida State\u00a0in a competitive 3-0 match\u00a0in Tallahassee, Fla.\u00a0<\/p>\n UNA\u00a0(10-1)\u00a0opened the season with a 10-0 record and carried the nation’s longest win streak into Monday \u2014 tied with Pitt with 10 straight wins. The streak ends after nine sweeps and a thrilling 3-2 comeback on the road at Samford.\u00a0<\/p>\n True freshman Anna Hoffmayer<\/a> led the offense with eight kills tonight and a hitting percentage of .462. She also had two service aces and two block assists.\u00a0Junior setter Kinslee McGowan<\/a> had 23 assists out of the team’s 26, along with one block assist.\u00a0
The Seminoles\u00a0(5-4)\u00a0earned an early 9-2 lead\u00a0in the first set, but the Lions got back within five with a score of\u00a016-11 after a kill from\u00a0Hoffmayer. Including the kill, the Lions went on a 4-0 run to cut it to\u00a0four.\u00a0The Seminoles earned the next two points, but another kill from Hoffmayer put the Lions within three with a score of\u00a018-15. A kill from junior Reese Ricketts<\/a> and an attack error\u00a0put us close again at 21-18, but the Seminoles closed the set at 25-18.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n North Alabama had nine kills in the first set with a .250 hitting percentage. The\u00a0Lions\u00a0also had three blocks and a service ace.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n Set 2: Florida State 25, UNA 18\u00a0<\/p>\n In the second set, Florida State came out strong with a 4-0 lead, but sophomore Jenna Kolosta<\/a> ended the run with her second kill of the night.\u00a0North Alabama then tied it up at 6-6 after a 4-0 run with help from Florida State errors and another kill from\u00a0Hoffmayer. The Lions stayed within\u00a0six with back-and-forth scoring for a while, but Florida State finished\u00a0the set\u00a0with another 25-18 score.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n North Alabama had 14 digs, eight kills, eight assists and a service ace in the second set.\u00a0<\/p>\n Set 3: Florida State 25, UNA 21\u00a0<\/p>\n Senior Phoebe Reyes Fortunato<\/a> helped the Lions open the third set strong with her second kill of the night,\u00a0assisted\u00a0by\u00a0McGowan. North Alabama then went up 3-1 with help from another kill from\u00a0Hoffmayer. Scoring was back-and-forth in the beginning, and the Lions did not give the Seminoles the lead until they went up 10-9. North Alabama\u00a0immediately\u00a0tied it back up with a kill from junior Dylann Garner<\/a>. Florida State responded with a kill of\u00a0its\u00a0own,\u00a0but it was met by the Lions’\u00a0most explosive run yet of 6-0. North Alabama held the lead up\u00a0until it was\u00a018-18. Scoring went back-and-forth again with a tie of 20-20, but the Seminoles went on a 5-1 run to close the third set at 25-21.\u00a0\u00a0
The Lions will head to Lynchburg, Va. for two matches against the Liberty Flames\u00a0later this week.
