JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2014 September 11th, 2001, is a day that changed the lives of millions of people forever.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt changed the United States,\u201d said Special Agent in Charge FBI Jacksonville Jason Carley. \u201cIt changed the way law enforcement, especially federal law enforcement, approached things.<\/p>\n
When the attacks happened, Carley was serving in the army.<\/p>\n
He said since 9\/11, the FBI adjusted to be a more intelligence-driven, threat-based agency.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne of the most significant changes for us is the intelligence exchange that we have,\u201d said Carley. \u201cMaking sure we\u2019re sharing information, state and local partners, and working together to mitigate threats that are out there to ensure that something like that never happens again.\u201d<\/p>\n
We asked Carley if he believed the FBI would operate the way it does now if 9\/11 never happened.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think we were going to transition as an organization over time,\u201d Carley said. \u201cWe still always were having sources and being very cognizant of the national security threat that was out there. However, those attacks, such a significant attack, did accelerate that adjustment.\u201d<\/p>\n
Carley says since 9\/11, 33 FBI agents have died from 9\/11 related illnesses. One FBI agent was killed on that day.<\/p>\n
He says it\u2019s important to never forget that day.<\/p>\n
