Witnesses described the terrifying moments they ran for their lives during a deadly shooting in Little Havana, while trying to take a friend and children to safety.<\/p>\n
One of the men, who did not want to be identified publicly, said he was at the home on Northwest 17th Street and Third Avenue when the shooter forced his way inside early Saturday morning. <\/p>\n
The witness said he heard yelling, and then gunshots. Then, he described seeing his friend come out of the home bleeding and carrying a girl, before the gunman started shooting again.<\/p>\n

“What happened that day was something inexplicable, that no one would want to live through,” he said. “It was one of the most tragic moments that hurt me as his friend, and I imagine is hurting him right now.”<\/p>\n
Police said the shooting left two people, a man and a woman, dead. <\/p>\n
Two other victims survived, including a 32-year-old man the witness identified as his friend, Juan Carlos, who was taken to the hospital in critical condition. <\/p>\n
Meanwhile, a 13-year-old was treated for lacerations “from being struck in some manner, not with a knife,” Miami Fire Rescue said. <\/p>\n
Witnesses said another child, a baby, was also inside the home during the shooting. Miami police did not immediately confirm that information. <\/p>\n
Investigators said the shooting appears to be domestic-related. But police have not identified the people involved or confirmed their relationships to one another.<\/p>\n
Fleeing from shooter, man told to ‘run, save the girl’<\/p>\n
One of the witnesses told our sister station Telemundo 51 in Spanish that he had driven to the home to pick up his friend, Juan Carlos, as he did every morning for work. <\/p>\n
“I saw a guy knocking on his door. I never imagined who that guy was… and I was watching as he knocked on the door aggressively,” he said. <\/p>\n
Then, he watched “in shock” as his friend opened the door and the man forced his way inside. <\/p>\n
“I’m going to get out [of the car] to see what’s going on, see if I can help in some way, separate them… and when I’m getting a little closer to the house, the door, I hear a gunshot,” the witness said. <\/p>\n
Moments later, he said his friend came outside with his arms covered in blood and carrying a girl.<\/p>\n
“He says, ‘help, save the girl, help, help, save the girl,'” the shaken witness said. <\/p>\n
He said he grabbed his friend and the girl and started running, but the shooter followed.<\/p>\n
Again, the wounded victim told him to “run, save the girl.”<\/p>\n
“I take off running with the girl in my arms and I see that the guy comes and starts to shoot my friend again… and then, the guy went back to the home,” the witness said. <\/p>\n
He said that’s when police arrived, helping Juan Carlos and telling them to take cover. But the gunman had gone back inside\u2014where the witness said he shot and killed a woman and then himself.<\/p>\n
‘It was for her life, and that’s what it cost her’<\/p>\n
Another man who spoke to our sister station Telemundo 51 said he’s lived at the home with Juan Carlos and his family for about a year, and that he was asleep when the shooting started. <\/p>\n
From inside his room, he heard the chaos. <\/p>\n
“I only heard a shout, a cry, a shot\u2014it was something so frustrating because I felt powerless, I was in shock, I had no idea what was going to happen to me in that moment and what was going on outside,” he said. <\/p>\n
After those eternal moments, the woman yelled for those in the home to get out. <\/p>\n
“[The gunman and the woman] were fighting, and she screamed, ‘Get out, get out,’ and we were able to escape,” he said. “Since I was the last one, I was able to see in her face the way she really said, ‘leave,’ and she knew what she was doing, because she knew she needed to get her child out and she had the chance. It was for her life, and that’s what it cost her, because she knew very well that she wasn’t going to get out.”<\/p>\n
As they fled, the witness said he noticed Juan Carlos had been shot. <\/p>\n
“I asked him what happened, who is he, [and he says], ‘It’s her ex who’s come to kill us,'” he said. <\/p>\n
But the violence didn’t stop when they escaped the home. The witness threw himself under a truck to hide, but said he saw as the shooter approached Juan Carlos, wounded on the ground, and fired four more shots. <\/p>\n
“He ran back [to the home], like nothing,” he said. “He pistol-whipped the girl and went into the house to kill her mother.”<\/p>\n
At one point, the witness said the girl tried to go inside to look for her mother before he stopped her and led her to police. <\/p>\n
Meanwhile, authorities have not confirmed the witness\u2019 accounts of how the two people found inside the home died.
