Here\u2019s something Tampa apparently needed but didn\u2019t know to ask for: an R&B, anime-inspired speakeasy hidden inside a wing spot in Seminole Heights, born from a trip to Tokyo, serving cocktails with names like \u201cYuzu Don\u2019t Know My Name.\u201d Somehow, that sentence is entirely real, and it might be the most interesting thing happening on North Nebraska Avenue.<\/p>\n

Last Train to Shibuya comes from co-founders Camille Baker and Dainelle Riley, who traveled through Japan in 2024 and came back with an idea that may just be visionary. Moving through Tokyo, Yokohama, Shibuya, and Shinjuku, they discovered something unexpected: Japanese nightlife had a deep, heartfelt appreciation for Black American culture, particularly Southern and Caribbean traditions. Instead of telling everyone about it at dinner parties like most would, they decided to build a whole venue around it.<\/p>\n

The result sits inside Saucin Wings at 4725 North Nebraska Avenue, and if you\u2019re not paying attention, you\u2019ll walk right past it. That\u2019s by design. Once inside, you\u2019re in a moody, intimate lounge where the music is strictly R&B. Not \u201cmostly R&B.\u201d Not \u201cR&B adjacent with a few questionable segues.\u201d Just R&B. The aesthetic earns it: Japanese-influenced warmth and intention throughout.<\/p>\n

The kitchen is powered by Chef Chris Riley, and it\u2019s exactly what you\u2019d hope \u201cSouthern meets Japanese\u201d means in practice. The bao menu alone could end friendships over who orders what. There\u2019s a Short Rib Bao with soy-mirin glazed beef and Kewpie mayo, a Catfish Po-Bao with yuzu glaze and Japanese mayo, and a Southern Fried Chicken Bao pairing karaage-style chicken with miso honey and pickled jalape\u00f1o. The wings are pulling equal weight: Tokyo Hot, Miso Honey Garlic (nice), and Yuzu Pepper, all excellent reasons to rethink your dinner plans. The Fried Greens Gyoza, stuffed with slow-braised mustard greens and served with ponzu, also exists, and it\u2019s a very good reason to stay longer than you planned.<\/p>\n

Then there are the cocktails, which deserve their own moment of appreciation. \u201cThe Lychee Is Mine\u201d is a lychee martini with elderflower. \u201cCome & Tokyo To Me\u201d is a Japanese whisky old fashioned with black cherry. \u201cSoju Seduction\u201d is a sparkling Aperol situation that sounds like it was invented by someone who\u2019s having a significantly better year than you. Every drink name is a pun, and every pun earns it.<\/p>\n
