Florida Department of Transportation<\/a> has kicked off a $2.2 million roadway improvement project that impacts traffic from Bay Drive East all the way to S.R. A1A\/Collins Avenue through early 2027.<\/p>\nHow traffic will be impacted<\/p>\n
As crews work on the road, here\u2019s everything you need to know to avoid the worst of the gridlock:<\/p>\n
Eastbound: One lane closed Sunday through Thursday (6 p.m. to 7 a.m.) and Friday through Saturday (7 p.m. to 8 a.m.). Two lanes close overnight Sunday through Thursday (11 p.m. to 7 a.m.) and Friday through Saturday (12 a.m. to 8 a.m.).<\/p>\n
Westbound: One lane closed Sunday through Thursday (9:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.) and Friday through Saturday (10 p.m. to 8 a.m.).<\/p>\n
Both directions: One lane closed weekdays and weekends from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.<\/p>\n
Side streets: One lane on surrounding side streets closed daily between 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.<\/p>\n
Why is work being done on 71st Street?<\/p>\n
The project is focused on making the area safer for pedestrians and extending the life of the roadway. According to FDOT, crews are working on a full repaving and restriping of the road, as well as upgraded signals and crosswalks at all intersections between Bay Drive East and Harding Avenue, a new video detection system installation, pedestrian curb ramps and signals for ADA compliance.<\/p>\n
