CENTERVILLE \u2013 A man from Tampa who was arrested in St. Mary Parish over the weekend faces additional criminal charges after attempting to escape jail, according to police records.<\/p>\n
On Saturday, Jonathan Matthew Piriou, 25, who was being held at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center, allegedly charged at a deputy. The deputy deployed his taser but it was unsuccessful and Piriou forced his way out of the cell and into the hallway after a struggle.<\/p>\n
Authorities allege Piriou was trapped in the locked hallway, attacked responding officers and gained control of a taser. It took several deputies to subdue Piriou, who was returned to his cell.<\/p>\n
Two deputies received medical treatment from the injuries they sustained during the altercation.<\/p>\n
Piriou was arrested on Sunday morning on a warrant for the following charges: disarming a police officer, resisting an officer, resisting an officer with force or violence, battery of a police officer-injury medical attention, battery of a police officer, attempted escape and simple robbery<\/p>\n
