The area features basketball and pickleball courts, along with a putting green.<\/p>\n<p>It was designed to help patients advance their recovery through engaging, functional and enjoyable physical activities.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The patients overwhelmingly, the ones that get out here and use it, love it,&#8221; said Scott Bankard, director of rehabilitation at HCA Florida West Hospital. &#8220;A lot of times after an accident or a disease process, like a stroke, there is some depression and sometimes some post-traumatic stress disorder. And so this is a great way to get outside, give them some hope, give them an ability to focus on something fun and get them back to working and playing with the activities that they love to do.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The outdoor area cost $500,000 and took about three years to make happen.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"PENSACOLA, Fla. &#8212; HCA Florida West Hospital Rehabilitation Center is celebrating its new outdoor recreation therapy area.
