Red light runners caught on camera in Cape Coral<\/p>\n

Two drivers were caught on camera running red lights in Cape Coral Tuesday night, with both incidents happening within two hours on Chiquita Boulevard between Gleason Parkway and Veterans Boulevard.<\/p>\n

Dashcam footage shows one of the cars rushing through the intersection at least two seconds after the light turned red. <\/p>\n

Cape Coral police highlighted that running red lights not only carries financial penalties but also poses significant risks to lives. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe drivers around here need to do. Be careful for these young teenagers on the road or even the older elderly citizens,\u201d said Gloriana Chalkis, a Cape Coral driver. <\/p>\n

New drivers like Chalkis expressed concerns about the dangers of ignoring traffic signals. In one of the videos, a car with a student driver sign narrowly avoided a crash while crossing the intersection. <\/p>\n

\u201cI’d be so worried, and I’d be like, just honestly scared because, like, if I was like two seconds earlier or two seconds later, that could have hurt my life. And also the other person who ran the red light,\u201d Chalkis said. <\/p>\n

The Cape Coral Police Department says running a red light only saves drivers up to three minutes. <\/p>\n

In Lee County, running a red light results in a $259 fine, according to the Lee County Clerk of Court. <\/p>\n

Back in July, a driver reportedly ran a red light and crashed<\/a> into a passing Cape Coral police officer, serving as a reminder of the dangers of such actions. <\/p>\n

\u201cBeing defensive and always being aware of where everyone is, whether you’re coming left or right, like anywhere. I think that’s my biggest thing,\u201d Chalkis said.<\/p>\n
