Instead, she learned to interpret rejection as \u201cnot right now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That mindset recently paid off for the fourth-year business administration student,<br \/>\n                        who spent the summer working with the San Antonio Spurs through the NBA HBCU Fellowship<br \/>\n                        program. The Orlando, Florida, native and marketing student in FAMU\u2019s School of Business<br \/>\n                        and Industry (SBI) applied to the fellowship twice before earning the opportunity<br \/>\n                        on her third try.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI don\u2019t take no as rejection. I just take it as not right now, and I go ahead and<br \/>\n                        try again,\u201d Paul said. \u201cThird time is the charm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Paul initially was not selected during this year\u2019s application process, but the Spurs<br \/>\n                        later reached back out and offered her a position. (Photo Courtesy: Faith Paul)<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As a member of the Spurs\u2019 social impact team, Paul helped connect the organization<br \/>\n                        with the San Antonio community through service, outreach and programming. Her experience<br \/>\n                        included participating in a Juneteenth parade, supporting Habitat for Humanity initiatives,<br \/>\n                        assisting with a back-to-school event and contributing ideas for the organization\u2019s<br \/>\n                        Impact Nights.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Working alongside different departments also exposed Paul to the planning behind large-scale<br \/>\n                        community initiatives and helped clarify the kind of career she wants to pursue.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI\u2019ve always looked at myself as a mind for business, but a heart for people,\u201d Paul<br \/>\n                        said. \u201cIt really taught me that I want to go into more of a social impact kind of<br \/>\n                        work in the corporate world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>                     <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/1024x768_FAITHPAUL5.jpg\" alt=\"Faith Paul is featured in a San Antonio Spurs Sports &amp; Entertainment card highlighting her work in impact during her NBA HBCU Fellowship experience with the organization. During<br \/>\n                        her first semester, Paul watched classmates pursue experiences she wanted for herself.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By her second semester, she changed her approach.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI make my own future,\u201d Paul said. \u201cI apply for every opportunity that I see. It doesn\u2019t<br \/>\n                        matter if I don\u2019t meet the qualifications. I\u2019m applying.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of those early opportunities was a micro-internship connected to BET Week in Los<br \/>\n                        Angeles, where she worked with artist and entrepreneur will.i.am. Stepping onto those stages required her to move beyond<br \/>\n                        her comfort zone.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cYou\u2019re never going to know how far you could go if you don\u2019t step out your shell,\u201d<br \/>\n                        Paul said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finding Her Voice at FAMU<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Paul credits SBI with helping turn that willingness to try into professional confidence.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Johnny McCaskill, liaison to the SBI Living Learning Community (LLC), remembers Paul<br \/>\n                        differently from the student now representing FAMU in professional spaces across the<br \/>\n                        country.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cShe was quiet and reserved,\u201d McCaskill said. \u201cOver time she became acclimated to<br \/>\n                        the SBI culture and blossomed socially and academically.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>                     <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/1024x768_FAITHPAUL7.jpg\" alt=\"Paul takes the stage during the Thurgood Marshall College Fund\u2019s Fearless Futures event, one of several professional development experiences that helped her strengthen her confidence, leadership skills and industry network. (Photo Courtesy: Faith Paul)<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Paul said lessons introduced early in SBI \u2014 from professional greetings to the way<br \/>\n                        students formulate questions \u2014 became useful tools during her internship with the<br \/>\n                        Spurs. She recalled McCaskill teaching students to confidently declare \u201cI am\u201d when<br \/>\n                        introducing themselves and command their presence in a room.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">McCaskill also encouraged students to look beyond academics when building their college<br \/>\n                        experience.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI stress to her and all my students that the work you do in the classroom is par<br \/>\n                        for the course,\u201d McCaskill said. \u201cIt is important to do things outside the classroom<br \/>\n                        to really grow. And she took that message to heart.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For McCaskill, the results are evident. He described Paul\u2019s growth as going \u201cfrom<br \/>\n                        quiet and shy to a bold representation of the drive that we attempt to instill in<br \/>\n                        each of our students.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another Third Try<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The number three would prove significant for Paul once again.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She was recently selected as a Dream Foundation Scholar, an opportunity she also pursued<br \/>\n                        unsuccessfully twice before earning a spot on her third attempt.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThere\u2019s something about that number three this year,\u201d Paul said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The program supports HBCU students interested in sports business careers through mentorship,<br \/>\n                        professional development, networking and industry experiences. (Photo Courtesy: Faith Paul)<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI want to continue figuring out where my strengths and interests best fit within<br \/>\n                        the sports business,\u201d Paul said. \u201cI also want to continue building those genuine relationships<br \/>\n                        within the industry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">McCaskill sees another quality in Paul that extends beyond her own ambition.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cHer drive and her willingness to assist others in reaching similar goals are the<br \/>\n                        qualities that set her apart,\u201d he said. \u201cShe is a true team player.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Paul puts that philosophy into practice on campus as a member of Jewels Incorporated,<br \/>\n                        a mentoring organization that works with young girls in the Tallahassee community.<br \/>\n                        She said mentoring has taught her about sisterhood, patience, adaptability and the<br \/>\n                        importance of giving back.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Representation Beyond the Hill<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Paul expects to graduate from FAMU in May 2027 and plans to pursue graduate education<br \/>\n                        in business administration and sports. (Photo Courtesy: Faith Paul)<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: left;\">\u201cIt\u2019s easy to say to children that, \u2018Hey, you can make it here in life,\u2019\u201d Paul said.<br \/>\n                           \u201cBut if they don\u2019t see representation of themselves there, then it\u2019s kind of hard<br \/>\n                           for them to actually believe it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For Paul, the opportunities she once watched others receive are now part of her own<br \/>\n                        story \u2014 from BET and national conferences to the San Antonio Spurs and Dream Foundation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As she prepares for life beyond FAMU, she wants other students, particularly those<br \/>\n                        navigating college without a blueprint, to know that an initial rejection does not<br \/>\n                        have to determine the outcome.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBe the change that you wish to see,\u201d Paul said. \u201cKeep shining, keep reaching for<br \/>\n                        the stars, even if it looks impossible.
