{"id":403438,"date":"2026-09-18T10:28:06","date_gmt":"2026-09-18T10:28:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/403438\/"},"modified":"2026-09-18T10:28:06","modified_gmt":"2026-09-18T10:28:06","slug":"jesus-tundidor-files-for-hd-112-lands-an-immediate-endorsement-from-future-house-speaker","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/403438\/","title":{"rendered":"Jesus Tundidor files for HD 112, lands an immediate endorsement from future House Speaker"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Former Hialeah Council President Jesus Tundidor just became the first person to announce his candidacy for a to-be-called Special Election for House District 112, and future Speaker Mike Redondo is already backing his campaign.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Tundidor, a healthcare executive who served on the City Council from 2019 to January 2026, announced his candidacy Friday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He hopes to succeed outgoing Hialeah Rep. Alex Rizo, a fellow Republican who won re-election in June, but is forgoing two more years in the HD 112 seat to <a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/817991-ready-to-continue-fighting-alex-rizo-makes-race-for-open-sd-39-a-two-person-contest\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">seek a spot in the Senate instead<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cFor six years, I\u2019ve fought for lower taxes, safer streets, protecting our seniors, and a government that respects the people who pay for it,\u201d Tundidor said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThat\u2019s the fight I\u2019m bringing to Tallahassee for District 112.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Tundidor\u2019s announcement also included an endorsement from Redondo, a freshman Representative who last year <a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/745799-the-honor-of-a-lifetime-mike-redondo-wins-race-to-be-house-speaker-for-2030-term\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">won a race<\/a> to be House Speaker after the 2030 elections.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Redondo called him \u201cthe best candidate to represent District 112 in Tallahassee.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cJesus Tundidor has spent his career proving he knows how to get things done for Hialeah families, cutting taxes, cutting red tape, and protecting our seniors and families,\u201d Redondo said. \u201cHe will be essential to keeping a strong Republican majority in the Florida House. I\u2019m proud to give Jesus my full support, and I\u2019ll be with him every step of the way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A lifelong Hialeah resident, Tundidor\u2019s tenure at City Hall was marked by opposition to tax increases, a push to repeal the city\u2019s water and sewer franchise fee to lower residents\u2019 utility bills and sponsorship of ordinances that his campaign said generated millions of dollars for the city through development-linked fees rather than higher property taxes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cHe also sponsored measures to incentivize affordable housing, backed the addition of 100 police officers over four years, and provided direct constituent services to more than 3,500 residents and small businesses,\u201d a campaign press note said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If elected, Tundidor vows to back efforts that lower taxes, boost affordable housing and reduce the cost of living for Floridians, including lowering property insurance costs. Other priorities include supporting seniors and strengthening neighborhood safety.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">His community involvements include service as Vice Chair of the American Museum of the Cuban Diaspora and work with the Special Olympics and local hospital Boards.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In November, he <a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/763916-hialeah-voters-pick-bryan-calvo-as-first-new-elected-mayor-in-5-years\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">placed second<\/a> in a four-way contest for Hialeah Mayor.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Before winning a local office, he worked as an aide to former state Senator and current Miami-Dade Commissioner\u00a0Ren\u00e9 Garc\u00eda.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.myfloridahouse.gov\/FileStores\/Web\/District\/DistrictMaps\/large\/HD_112_Large.pdf\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\">HD 112<\/a> covers the northwestern portion of Miami-Dade, including most of Hialeah, Miami Springs, Virginia Gardens, and part of Miami.
