FLORIDA \u2014 It looks like something from another world, but this strange landscape is right here in Northeast Florida.<\/p>\n
Black Rock Beach and Boneyard Beach, on Big Talbot Island <\/a>near Jacksonville, offer a Florida shoreline unlike any other.<\/p>\n Massive, weathered oak and cedar trees stretch across the sand, with twisted trunks and exposed roots creating an eerie, almost otherworldly landscape.<\/p>\n Photographer Paul Farace<\/a> says the setting is unlike anything else.<\/p>\n \u201cThis place is just like nothing else on Earth,\u201d Farace expressed.<\/p>\n Farace considers Black Rock Beach<\/a> a photographer\u2019s playground.<\/p>\n \u201cOh, this place is amazing. It\u2019s like stepping back in time, stepping into another world. Call it what you want,\u201d Farace explained.<\/p>\n He says the giant weathered tree skeletons are what make the area so compelling to photograph.<\/p>\n \u201cPhotographing out here is just amazing. I mean, you kind of have an endless compositions. The light comes in through different things.<\/p>\n Farace also points out the feature that gives Blackrock Beach its name.<\/p>\n \u201cThis black rock is actually not rock. It\u2019s spodosol<\/a>. And it\u2019s 10,000-year-old, compressed, fossilized soil. And it makes some of the most unique landscapes that you can find in Florida.\u201d<\/p>\n The dark formations can give the beach an almost volcanic appearance.<\/p>\n A family visiting from Georgia came to explore the fallen trees and take pictures.<\/p>\n Melissa Valli says, \u201cit\u2019s prehistoric. And, I just haven\u2019t really ever seen anything like this before. I didn\u2019t know Florida had this.\u201d<\/p>\n Just up the beach is Boneyard Beach<\/a>, another popular destination for photographers.<\/p>\n Will Dickey<\/a> has photographed the landscape for decades, often coming at sunrise.<\/p>\n \u201cI was a photographer for the Florida Times-Union for 37 years. As a photojournalist. I photographed a little bit of everything.
