NAPA, California \u2014 Miami Dolphins edge defender Chop Robinson was ruled out for Sunday\u2019s game against the San Francisco 49ers<\/a> due to his concussion.<\/p>\n

Dolphins coach Jeff Hafley said ahead of the team\u2019s practice on Friday in Napa that Robinson will not play in Sunday\u2019s 4:25 p.m. kickoff at Levi\u2019s Stadium.<\/p>\n

Hafley said Robinson suffered the concussion during Wednesday\u2019s practice.\u00a0With a short turnaround to navigate the NFL\u2019s five-step concussion protocol, Robinson will now look to return the following week when the Dolphins host the Kansas City Chiefs on Sept. 27.<\/p>\n

\u201cChop did sustain a concussion during practice,\u201d Hafley said before Friday drills. \u201cHe is in the protocol. He will not play this week. He is doing well. And I will leave it at that for Chop questions.\u201d<\/p>\n

His concussion diagnosis was initially revealed<\/a> when the Dolphins released their first injury report for the week on Wednesday evening, later than usual as the team practiced on the West Coast<\/a> between games at Las Vegas and San Francisco.<\/p>\n

Robinson, the third-year edge rusher who has an important season ahead of him, was listed as a limited participant in Wednesday\u2019s drills on the injury report after he was seen practicing early in the session during a media viewing period.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, Robinson did not practice. He instead was first seen watching teammates during team stretch, then walking around the perimeter of the Napa facility alongside a trainer before returning to the sideline on the field and watching individual position drills. Friday was more of the same with Robinson seen watching practice.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s Robinson\u2019s third concussion in the last calendar year. Last season, he suffered one in late October that cost him the following week\u2019s game, and late in the year, he had another one, leading him to sit out the season finale.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s going to hurt,\u201d linebacker Jordyn Brooks said Thursday of the possibility of being without Robinson. \u201cChop is a great young player who I think is going to be great in this league, so it hurts to have him (out), but it\u2019s got to be the next-man-up mentality.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s an opportunity when you\u2019re the next man up, so I think everybody\u2019s aware of that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Without Robinson, the Dolphins will likely do a number of things up front. For one, they can continue to use defensive tackle Zeek Biggers lined up more on the edge as a defensive end, as he did plenty last Sunday in Las Vegas when he started opposite Robinson. Josh Uche, Malik Herring, Robert Beal Jr. and Clelin Ferrell, who is on the practice squad but is a candidate for elevation again, should receive an uptick in snaps<\/a> in Robinson\u2019s absence.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s all of the above,\u201d Hafley said. \u201cWe might do some other things to help out, but those guys, I have confidence in. They\u2019ve been getting better. They all haven\u2019t been here for the entire time, but they\u2019ve done a nice job in practice this week, and it\u2019ll be the next man up.\u201d<\/p>\n

Added defensive coordinator Sean Duggan on Thursday: \u201cYour job as a coach is to prepare everybody.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a key season for Robinson, the 2024 first-round pick out of Penn State, but it started inauspiciously even before the concussion.<\/p>\n

In last week\u2019s season-opening loss to the Raiders<\/a>, he made just one assisted tackle, didn\u2019t apply pressure on Las Vegas quarterback Kirk Cousins and was not particularly strong against the run.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought he was a little hesitant,\u201d Hafley said Monday of Robinson\u2019s Week 1 play. \u201cI don\u2019t think he set edges as violently at times as he did. And then, I thought, as the game went on, he got better. We just need him to pick up and then make sure that it\u2019s consistent throughout the game.\u201d<\/p>\n

After this season, the Dolphins will decide on whether to pick up the fifth-year option on Robinson\u2019s rookie deal before he goes into his fourth season.<\/p>\n

Also ruled out Friday before the Sunday game was linebacker Ronnie Harrison Jr., who aggravated a pre-existing hamstring injury against the Raiders.<\/p>\n

Long snapper Tucker Addington is questionable with a shoulder injury, and if he can\u2019t play, the team can elevate Cal Adomitis, who was signed this week to the practice squad. Adomitis was the only one seen doing long snapping during a media viewing period of Friday drills.<\/p>\n

Hafley said he anticipates rookie tight end Seydou Traore would be able to play against the 49ers through thumb and Achilles ailments, barring setbacks. And he was free of any game status designation on Friday\u2019s injury report.<\/p>\n

For the 49ers, kicker Eddy Pineiro (illness) and running back Kaelon Black (groin) are questionable.
