The Jacksonville Jaguars’ crowded receiver room has not pushed wide receiver Parker Washington to the margins. Locked On Jaguars host Tony Wiggins argued that Washington has raised his game since fellow wide receiver Jakobi Meyers joined the mix, giving quarterback Trevor Lawrence another prepared, competitive option as Jacksonville prepares to face the Denver Broncos.

Wiggins framed Washington’s development as more than a depth-chart story. He said the former sixth-round pick has moved beyond the label attached to his 2023 draft slot and has become a player who reflects the identity the Jaguars want: Productive, physical, and intent on improving rather than protecting a role.

Washington was the No. 185 overall selection in the 2023 NFL Draft, but Wiggins said the receiver’s preparation and willingness to compete have made that draft status increasingly irrelevant. His point was not that Washington has already solved every question in the passing game, but that Jacksonville now has a receiver who can answer the pressure created by added talent rather than fade behind it.

Meyers’ arrival supplied that pressure, according to Wiggins. He said Washington took off once the Jaguars added another established receiver, calling it the kind of internal competition the organization needs. For Lawrence, the benefit is a receiving group with fewer players waiting for validation and more players who can execute their assignments without demanding the spotlight.

That makes Washington’s role worth monitoring in Denver. Wiggins expects Jacksonville to lean on a physical approach and smart quarterback play, and Washington’s ability to keep earning opportunities could help the offense stay balanced if the Broncos devote extra attention to the Jaguars’ more established weapons.

Wiggins also connected Washington’s rise to a larger culture argument. He said a team cannot borrow toughness from former stars or past seasons; current players establish it through their daily work. Washington, in Wiggins’ view, has become one of the players helping define that standard.

Jaguars News and Notes

– Wiggins picked Jacksonville to beat the Denver Broncos, citing what he viewed as advantages in quarterback play, the receiving corps, tight end depth, and physicality. He also pointed to Denver’s short week following its previous game as a factor that could favor the Jaguars.

– Wiggins labeled the upcoming slate “separation weekend” because a Jacksonville win could create early AFC South distance. He said the Jaguars could reach 2-0 while division rivals face difficult matchups, while also improving their conference standing.
