Plantation High School was placed on lockdown Thursday after reports of a possible gun on campus and a large fight prompted a police and SWAT response, but authorities later determined that neither incident had occurred.<\/p>\n
Plantation Police said the lockdown began after someone reported overhearing a comment about a gun. Around the same time, a large group of students was seen running through a hallway, raising concerns that a fight may have broken out.<\/p>\n
Officers responded to the school on Northwest 16th Street and began searching the campus. Police also established a perimeter around the school, preventing anyone from entering or leaving while the investigation was underway.<\/p>\n
The student connected to the initial report was later located, and investigators determined that no gun had been brought onto the campus. Police also found that no fight had occurred.<\/p>\n
The lockdown was subsequently lifted and the police perimeter cleared.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Plantation Police Department commends the school staff and students for taking the situation seriously and following safety procedures while officers worked to determine the facts,\u201d the department said in a statement on X. \u201cThe safety of our students, faculty, and staff remains our highest priority.\u201d<\/p>\n
