GCG Week 5: South Fort Myers tops Community School of Naples 29-14 on Salute to Service night

The Wolfpack struck first and relied on a tough defensive effort to leave Naples with a road victory Friday night.

Before South Fort Myers and Community School of Naples battled on the football field Friday night, the Seahawks made sure the evening began by recognizing a different kind of service.

Community School of Naples held its Salute to Service game, honoring service members on the field before kickoff. The pregame ceremony included a flyover from a Collier County Sheriff’s Office helicopter, creating a memorable scene before the focus shifted to football.

Once the game began, South Fort Myers quickly took control.

The Wolfpack moved the ball efficiently on their opening possession before Arthur Gallishaw powered his way into the end zone on the ground to give South Fort Myers the first points of the night.

Community School of Naples responded by reaching deeper into its playbook.

Facing fourth-and-6, the Seahawks turned to some trickery to pick up a first down and extend the possession. CSN continued using misdirection as it searched for a way through a South Fort Myers defense that consistently closed running lanes and pressured the Seahawks’ offense.

The creativity helped CSN move the chains, but finishing drives proved much more difficult.

Quarterback Caden DiLoreto eventually found Henry Evans downfield for the Seahawks’ biggest gain of the first half, giving CSN one of its best opportunities to threaten the Wolfpack defense.

South Fort Myers responded again.

The Wolfpack tightened defensively before the Seahawks could turn the big play into points, continuing a first half in which CSN repeatedly found ways to extend possessions but struggled to finish them.

That defensive effort helped South Fort Myers maintain control as the night continued.

The Wolfpack eventually left Naples with a 29-14 victory, bouncing back after a bye week and handing Community School of Naples its second consecutive loss.

For CSN, Friday’s result followed a difficult 49-12 loss to Archbishop McCarthy the previous week. The Seahawks showed more resistance against South Fort Myers, but the Wolfpack’s early execution and ability to end promising CSN possessions proved too much to overcome.
