Some storms could bring torrential downpours and localized flooding in urban and poor-drainage areas, with isolated spots receiving several inches of rain. High temperatures will reach the upper 80s to lower 90s before storms develop. Rain chances remain elevated through much of the upcoming week.<\/p>\n<p>Where is Tropical Storm Fay?<img alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"960\" height=\"725\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/https:\/\/media.zenfs.com\/en\/usa_today_news_641\/0a63b8f30bdee0a89a019aa44f54f185.png\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">At 5 a.m. ET, the center of Tropical Storm Fay was located near latitude 33N, longitude 33W. Fay is moving north-northwest near 5 mph.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Forecasters say Fay&#8217;s general motion is expected for about another day. A turn to the southwest is expected Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Location: About 450 miles southwest of the Azores<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Maximum sustained winds: 45 mph<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Minimum central pressure: 1004 MB<\/p>\n<p>Spaghetti models for Tropical Storm Fay<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u27a4 <a data-ylk=\"slk:Track Tropical Storm Fay;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;\" data-yga=\"{&quot;yLinkElement&quot;:&quot;link&quot;,&quot;yLinkElementType&quot;:&quot;article_link&quot;}\" href=\"https:\/\/data.naplesnews.com\/storm\/?sph=al992026#spaghetti\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Track Tropical Storm Fay<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Special note about spaghetti models: Spaghetti model illustrations include an array of forecast tools and models, and not all are created equal. The Hurricane Center uses only the top four or five highest-performing models to help make its forecasts.<\/p>\n<p>Will we get Hurricane Fay?<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The National Hurricane Center forecast discussion says the combination of relatively moist air and the merging of warmer and cooler conditions should cause Fay to gain some more strength during the next 12 to 24 hours.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">However, an increase in shear and dry air should end its opportunity for strengthening. Fay will likely become a remnant low Tuesday and dissipate by the end of the week.<\/p>\n<p>Could we see a tropical storm or hurricane near Florida in September?<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Anything is possible, but chances are low, according to the National Hurricane Center.<\/p>\n<p>Will there be no hurricanes in 2026?<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">If this year&#8217;s Atlantic season has <a data-ylk=\"slk:no hurricanes by Nov. 30;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;\" data-yga=\"{&quot;yLinkElement&quot;:&quot;link&quot;,&quot;yLinkElementType&quot;:&quot;article_link&quot;}\" href=\"https:\/\/www.accuweather.com\/en\/hurricane\/no-atlantic-hurricanes-by-sept-12-breaks-a-60-year-record\/1932278\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">no hurricanes by Nov. 30<\/a>, it will be only the third time it has happened, and you have to go back more than 100 years for the last times, in 1907 and 1914.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Of course, it is possible there were hurricanes, but records before the satellite era depended on observations from those nearby.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Since the satellite era began in 1966, there have been two occasions where we&#8217;ve seen <a data-ylk=\"slk:two hurricanes in a season;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;\" data-yga=\"{&quot;yLinkElement&quot;:&quot;link&quot;,&quot;yLinkElementType&quot;:&quot;article_link&quot;}\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/weather\/2026\/09\/12\/atlantic-hurricane-season-2026-sets-record\/91658860007\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">two hurricanes in a season<\/a>, in 1982 and 2013.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;We have never gone this late into the Atlantic hurricane season without a hurricane in the satellite era,&#8221; said AccuWeather Lead Hurricane Expert Alex DaSilva.<\/p>\n<p>National Hurricane Center tracking Tropical Storm Fay, 2 tropical waves<img alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"900\" height=\"679\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/https:\/\/media.zenfs.com\/en\/usa_today_news_641\/9e7dad416197954cccda763c76099f62.png\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Along with Tropical Storm Fay, the NHC is tracking two tropical waves:<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A central Atlantic tropical wave has its axis along 45W from 06N to 21N, slowly drifting westward.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A western Caribbean tropical wave has its axis along 84W south of 20N, from near the coast of Nicaragua to northeast Costa Rica, moving westward around 7-12 mph.<\/p>\n<p>What is a tropical wave?<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;Tropical waves are clusters of showers and thunderstorms that act as the seedlings for many tropical storms throughout the Atlantic season,&#8221; said Alex DaSilva, AccuWeather lead hurricane expert, via email.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;There are about 60 tropical waves that move across the Atlantic each year, and roughly 10% to 15% of them develop into a tropical system.
