Davis Webb had a tough debut as the Denver Broncos\u2019 play-caller last week against the Kansas City Chiefs.<\/p>\n

Davis Webb\u2019s debut as the Denver Broncos\u2019 play-caller didn\u2019t go very well in Week 1. <\/p>\n

The Broncos scored just 10 points in a 31-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. <\/p>\n

One NFL executive suggested after the poor showing against the Chiefs that it could be tough for Denver head coach Sean Payton to \u201cstick with\u201d letting Webb call plays. <\/p>\n

\u201cI think Sean\u2019s play calling last year was unbelievable,\u201d said the executive to The Athletic<\/a>. \u201cHe is such an elite play caller. Davis is a good dude, but he\u2019s 31 and never called plays before. That\u2019s going to be an interesting situation. They have a helluva schedule. They have a tough one against Jacksonville. If they come out of the gates slowly, it\u2019s gonna be hard for Sean to stick with this. That would get very messy.\u201d<\/p>\n

For now, though, it sounds like the Broncos have no plans to make any changes as the team expressed confidence in Webb before their Week 2 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe Denver Broncos maintain a \u2018high level of confidence and comfort\u2019 in Davis Webb as their offensive play-caller, a team source told ESPN,\u201d reported ESPN\u2019s Adam Schefter on Sunday morning<\/a>. \u201c\u2026 Sean Payton continues to support Webb and stand by the first-year offensive coordinator, believing he will be a successful play-caller.\u201d<\/p>\n

That should put any whispers of a change to bed. <\/p>\n

But if the Broncos continue to struggle offensively, this will be something to watch as it wouldn\u2019t be a surprise if Payton took play-calling duties back from Webb. But for now, that\u2019s clearly something Payton doesn\u2019t want to do. <\/p>\n
