Authorities are investigating after a Florida man said he accidentally shot <\/a>his 4-year-old daughter and wife <\/a>at their Deltona home over the weekend.<\/p>\n

The man told police that he was trying to clear his handgun before going to a shooting range when it accidentally discharged just before 10 a.m. on Saturday, the Volusia Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.<\/a><\/p>\n

When authorities arrived, the father was carrying his daughter, who had “obvious injuries to her chest and arm,” the sheriff’s office said.<\/p>\n

The mother was found inside the home with a “towel on her gunshot wound to her leg,” authorities added.<\/p>\n

Both the mom and daughter were conscious and alert, authorities said.<\/p>\n

First responders provided care, applying tourniquets to both the victims, as well as a chest seal on the little girl.<\/p>\n

The girl was airlifted to Orlando Health Arnold Palmer while the mother was taken to HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital.<\/p>\n

The father told authorities that he was getting ready to go to the shooting range when his gun fired, with one shot hitting both his wife and their daughter.<\/p>\n

“The facts and evidence gathered during the investigation support an accidental gunshot,” the sheriff’s office said.<\/p>\n

The little girl and mother’s conditions were not immediately known Sunday. The Independent has contacted the Volusia Sheriff’s Office for more information.<\/p>\n
