The Dolphins played a decent first half, trailing, 14-6, at halftime, but the talent difference between the teams surfaced in the third quarter when San Francisco outscored Miami, 21-0. Game over. The West Coast trip to open the season went as we expected, meaning the Dolphins took two tough losses. But the arrow is still pointed upward on QB Malik Willis.<\/p>\n

This is one that shows you how far the Dolphins are from contending teams in the league. It was a good plan to control the clock in the first half and shrink the game as much\u00a0as possible, but that can only last so long against a team as talented as the 49ers. The third quarter was an onslaught, and punter Bradley Pinion dropping the ball before he could boot it was a microcosm of the game for Miami. That\u2019s a blooper that will be played all year to represent this season for the Dolphins.<\/p>\n

The Dolphins stepped up in class from the Raiders, and the 49ers offense looked like it was participating in an intrasquad scrimmage. Totally unthreatened and sweat-free. Miami\u2019s offense had a couple moments before the game plan was officially trashed, but the limitations there were also evident on several plays. Two down, 15 to go.<\/p>\n

That was as unsightly a second half as you will see in an NFL game.
