{"id":405875,"date":"2026-09-21T03:24:54","date_gmt":"2026-09-21T03:24:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/405875\/"},"modified":"2026-09-21T03:24:54","modified_gmt":"2026-09-21T03:24:54","slug":"werner-herzog-and-orlando-bloom-on-bucking-fastard-threesome-scene","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/405875\/","title":{"rendered":"Werner Herzog and Orlando Bloom on &#8216;Bucking Fastard&#8217; Threesome Scene"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWhile speaking at the <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/san-sebastian-2\/\" id=\"auto-tag_san-sebastian-2\" data-tag=\"san-sebastian-2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">San Sebasti\u00e1n<\/a> Film Festival, where they are presenting \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/bucking-fastard\/\" id=\"auto-tag_bucking-fastard\" data-tag=\"bucking-fastard\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bucking Fastard<\/a>,\u201d renowned German director <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/werner-herzog\/\" id=\"auto-tag_werner-herzog\" data-tag=\"werner-herzog\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Werner Herzog<\/a> and the film\u2019s star <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/orlando-bloom\/\" id=\"auto-tag_orlando-bloom\" data-tag=\"orlando-bloom\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Orlando Bloom<\/a> spoke about a threesome scene between the \u201cPirates of the Caribbean\u201d actor and Rooney and Kate Mara, who lead Herzog\u2019s latest as two deeply intertwined sisters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAsked about the scene, Bloom said there is \u201csuch simplicity to the characters and [their] carnal desires, but also an innocence to the sisters,\u201d adding: \u201cMy character, the Bucking Fastard, is sensitive too. And he\u2019s quite quickly out of his depth in some ways. It was a very sincere sort of moment that was created.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cThere are moments when a director has to step back,\u201d Herzog jumped in to say. \u201cIn the love scene, I said to Orlando: \u2018You are in bed, and you have two women in your arms. How you deal with it, I cannot give instructions.\u2019 It is beautiful because it has such charm and depth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tDespite having world-premiered \u201cBucking Fastard\u201d less than two weeks ago, prolific director Werner Herzog \u2014 who is also a recipient of this year\u2019s Donostia Awards at San Sebasti\u00e1n \u2014 is only days away from wrapping his next project. \u201cThree days, and I\u2019ll have my next film finished,\u201d he said. \u201cOn Monday, I am back to work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tHerzog did not go into further details about the next project, but one could speculate he is referring to \u201cThe Twilight World,\u201d an animated adaptation of his eponymous book that tells the story of a Japanese intelligence officer who defended a small Filipino island for 29 years after the end of World War II. The director also noted he is currently writing two books and continues to work on scripts for future projects.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"c-lazy-image__img lrv-u-background-color-grey-lightest lrv-u-width-100p lrv-u-display-block lrv-u-height-auto\" src=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/wp-content\/themes\/pmc-variety-2020\/assets\/public\/lazyload-fallback.gif\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Bucking-Fastard.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-lazy- data-lazy- height=\"667\" width=\"1000\" decoding=\"async\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tCourtesy of Gateway to Orkney, Venice Film Festival<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe director also spoke about the dangers of the rise of AI and new technologies. \u201cWe have to defend our souls against encroachment from outside,\u201d he said. \u201cThis is why I would be very clear with very young people around their cellphones all the time. Do not live a life that is dictated by algorithms to keep your attention. Why don\u2019t you dig a hole in the ground? Why don\u2019t you build a little house on a tree? The moment the world starts to occupy our souls, you have to be very vigilant. Now with AI, it\u2019s coming big time at us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tHerzog\u2019s name was intertwined in debates around artificial intelligence given the release of Piotr Winiewicz\u2019s \u201cAbout a Hero,\u201d an experimental film that saw the Polish director feed Herzog\u2019s sprawling body of work into an AI bot and then shoot the resulting script. The film also created an AI-generated version of Herzog\u2019s characteristic voice. The German director recently called the film <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/features\/interviews\/werner-herzog-interview-david-lynch-ai-bucking-fastard-1235215271\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">\u201cphenomenally, abysmally stupid.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBack to \u201cBucking Fastard,\u201d the director cut off a journalist who referred to the film\u2019s long gestation as an \u201cobsession.\u201d \u201cI do not like the word obsession,\u201d he said firmly. \u201cDo you see an obsessed man here? I\u2019m totally relaxed. If you have an obsessive director, actors will run away, producers will run away. You have to run away from yourself if you\u2019re obsessive, and I\u2019m not, period.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cI have many a good story in me,\u201d he added when speaking about what keeps him going as a filmmaker. Offering a metaphor of stories as burglars invading his house, the director said he usually tackles the intruder that poses the most serious threat. \u201cWhatever comes with real vehemence at me, that\u2019s what I\u2019m dealing with. And I\u2019m never afraid, whatever it might be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tHerzog gushed about Bloom. The actor plays the titular character in a way: a charming sweet talker who becomes romantically involved with the Maras\u2019 Holbrooke sisters. The director noted how Bloom \u201cleft behind what he is famous for: the heartthrob for the teenies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cYou have to step into a new arena, play different parts,\u201d he recalled telling the actor once they met. To emphasize this breakthrough, Herzog asked Bloom to grow a beard and make his character more \u201cmanly.\u201d \u201cIt had to be distinct, a new terrain. It is a very interesting transition, and I will keep an eye on what [Bloom is] doing in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWhen I look at Orlando\u2019s career, he\u2019s famous everywhere in the world, but a part of how he\u2019s now navigating what is coming at him, I have the feeling that time is on his side, so wait for what\u2019s coming,\u201d he continued. \u201cI am very, very curious. There will be beautiful stuff coming from him. I am totally convinced.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBloom was also praiseful, calling working with Herzog a \u201cbucket list item.\u201d \u201cWhat I love about \u2018Bucking Fastard\u2019 is that it refuses to judge its characters and offer any kind of easy answers. That is something that Werner focused on. It was wonderful to work with Kate and Rooney; I\u2019ve been a long admirer of both of them. We had a lot of fun in Dublin.
