{"id":406281,"date":"2026-09-21T15:44:08","date_gmt":"2026-09-21T15:44:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/406281\/"},"modified":"2026-09-21T15:44:08","modified_gmt":"2026-09-21T15:44:08","slug":"hwy-55-burgers-shakes-fries-closes-jacksonville-location","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/406281\/","title":{"rendered":"Hwy 55 Burgers Shakes &#038; Fries closes Jacksonville location"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2013 Hwy 55 Burgers Shakes &amp; Fries closed its restaurant in Jacksonville, with the chain\u2019s top executive citing an upcoming increase in the minimum wage and a history of unprofitability at the location, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jaxdailyrecord.com\/news\/2026\/sep\/18\/hwy-55-burgers-shakes-fries-closes-jacksonville-location\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.jaxdailyrecord.com\/news\/2026\/sep\/18\/hwy-55-burgers-shakes-fries-closes-jacksonville-location\/\">according to our news partners at the Jacksonville Daily Record<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">The restaurant at 1027 Danmac Lane closed Sept. 16, Hwy 55 founder and CEO Kenney Moore said in a Facebook message to the Daily Record. <\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">Moore said the closure was difficult because of the \u201cwonderful staff\u201d at the West Jacksonville operation along Commonwealth Avenue east of Interstate 295.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">\u201cHowever, we have lost money since opening and with minimum wage going up at the end of the month that would add to our losses,\u201d Moore said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">A constitutional amendment in Florida approved by voters in November 2020 required the minimum wage to increase each year until it reaches $15 an hour. The wage will increase to $15 an hour Sept. 30, then will change annually based on inflation starting in 2027. <\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">Hwy 55 has offered to help its Jacksonville employees find new jobs, Moore said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">The Jacksonville location opened in June 2024, according to a Facebook post.
