Driver faces DUI charges after pickup truck plunges into Cape Coral canal<\/p>\n

A man is facing DUI charges after a pickup truck ended up submerged in a canal off the 1700 block of SW 29th St. in Cape Coral on Friday.<\/p>\n

The Cape Coral Police Department said it received a call reporting a reckless driver on Chiquita Boulevard. Police said another call stated that a traffic crash resulted in a vehicle in the canal<\/a>.<\/p>\n

According to CCPD, the vehicle’s description matched the reckless-driver call, and a witness said they saw Carson Williams, 29, behind the wheel.<\/p>\n

Responding units were able to get Williams out of the vehicle safely, and divers were able to confirm that he was the only occupant. Police said officers noticed signs of impairment and asked Williams to participate in field sobriety testing, which he performed poorly.<\/p>\n

Williams was arrested for DUI. According to CCPD, he provided two breath samples, .218% and .205%. The legal blood alcohol concentration limit in Florida is 0.08%.<\/p>\n

Williams was taken to the Lee County Jail.<\/p>\n
