PUNTA GORDA\u00a0\u2014 A person was airlifted with serious injuries after a weekend crash involving a semi-truck and a sedan on Interstate 75, near Tucker’s Grade.\u00a0<\/p>\n
According to Charlotte County Fire & EMS officials, the crash occurred about 5:45 a.m. Saturday in the I-75 southbound lanes near mile marker 158.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The crash included a semi-truck and a white Toyota.\u00a0<\/p>\n
One person was trapped in the Toyota following the wreck, officials stated.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Crews arrived and began an “extensive extrication operation to free the patient,” officials stated on social media. The extrication took 30 minutes.<\/p>\n
Engine 7, Squad 12 and Rescue 32 members worked to “safely extricate the patient.”<\/p>\n
According to Charlotte County Fire & EMS officials, Aeromed landed on I-75 as crews continued worked on the extrication.<\/p>\n
The patient was then brought to a helicopter, while being treated, and flown away for further medical treatment as a “trauma alert.”\u00a0<\/p>\n
Engine 6 members, meanwhile, worked to mitigate an estimated 20 to 40 gallons of oil that leaked as a result of the crash.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Charlotte County Fire & EMS posted about the crash and response on social media, crediting Engine 6 Engine 7, Squad 12, Rescue 32 and Battalion 1 team members for their efforts.<\/p>\n
