Last December, the city approved moving forward with the plan.<\/a> Since then, they have been working to decide which company will install the cameras.<\/p>\nOn Monday, the council will vote on an agreement with Verra Mobility to install cameras at 26 school zones.<\/p>\n

Similar to red light cameras, these devices will catch drivers going at least 10 mph over the posted school zone limit. Violators will receive a $100 ticket.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think there are pros and cons to it,\u201d driver Brandon Bowen said. <\/p>\n
\u201cI think that the positive side is to ensure that kids aren\u2019t in danger of getting hit, that definitely puts it in someone\u2019s mind to be mindful of how they\u2019re and how fast they\u2019re going. So, I think that\u2019s the best part about it. But if you\u2019re someone that\u2019s not paying attention, of course, you\u2019re probably going to get hit with a hefty fine.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to the city, the schools chosen for cameras were selected because they are at high risk of incidents.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think it\u2019s a very good idea. Because I do see drivers not considering the speed limit. So it\u2019s a good thing to add,\u201d driver Amy Castillo said.<\/p>\n

In August, Orange County approved adding school zone speed cameras to 12 of its schools<\/a>.<\/p>\nThe city council meets at 2 p.m. on Monday at City Hall.<\/p>\n
