INDIANTOWN, Fla. \u2014<\/p>\n‘We don’t want it’: Indiantown residents raise concerns over proposed data center<\/p>\n
Residents of Indiantown expressed frustration and opposition during a community meeting about a proposed hyperscale data center on Silver Fox Lane, citing environmental and transparency concerns.<\/p>\n
INDIANTOWN, Fla. \u2014<\/p>\n
A proposed hyperscale data center in Indiantown, known as Project Silver Fox, has sparked community concerns over its environmental impact, transparency and local benefits during an open house meeting hosted by developers Monday night. <\/p>\n
The center is planned for Silver Fox Lane and would occupy 606 acres of land, covering 30% of the site. Many residents voiced their opposition to the project, with some saying they felt their questions were left unanswered. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s horrendous, and they can\u2019t even answer our questions. I must have asked this guy here, this guy over there, \u2018Well, we don\u2019t know that yet, we don\u2019t know that yet.\u2019 Well, why are you here?\u201d said Penny Kaminsky-Preli, an Indiantown resident. <\/p>\n
Other attendees raised specific concerns about the project.<\/p>\n
\u201cI want to know about the sound,\u201d said one resident.<\/p>\n
Another added, \u201cWhat impact is it going to have on us environmentally?\u201d <\/p>\n
Adam Kramer, president of Panattoni Data Centers, one of the groups leading the project, responded to concerns about the center\u2019s location. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re not in your backyard; we\u2019re 1.5 miles away, and what we\u2019ve done is we\u2019re not asking the village to rezone land. We\u2019re asking them to go forward with the data center on land that the village has already set aside as industrial land that already included data center by right,\u201d Kramer said. <\/p>\n
Kramer also emphasized the economic benefits of the project.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat the project is, is an economic opportunity for the community, creating jobs, creating tax revenue, and what it is not \u2014 it is not using Indiantown water. It\u2019s not taking away from the community,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
However, some residents remain unconvinced.<\/p>\n
Murphy questioned, \u201cWhat is this community getting for what they are investing?\u201d<\/p>\n
Kaminsky-Preli reiterated her opposition, saying, \u201cWe don\u2019t want it. It does no good for us.\u201d <\/p>\n
The project is still in its planning stages, with developers needing to submit the site plan for administrative approval from the village.<\/p>\n
Project leaders indicated that if the plan meets code requirements, the data center is likely to move forward.<\/p>\n
