JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2014 Three major statewide races are virtually tied; that\u2019s the finding of a new poll that looked at the Florida Governor, U.S. Senate, and State Attorney General races. <\/p>\n
The new poll conducted by St. Pete Polls<\/a> found Republican Gubernatorial nominee Byron Donalds holding an advantage of only a tenth of a percent over his Democratic opponent David Jolly.<\/p>\n Speaking with Action News Jax, Jolly told us he\u2019s not surprised.<\/p>\n \u201cThey look at Republican leadership right now, and they see politicians building ballrooms and data centers, launching culture wars and doing nothing to impact what people are really asking for help with,\u201d said Jolly.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, the poll found Incumbent Republican US Senator Ashley Moody holding an advantage of less than half a percent over her Democratic challenger Angie Nixon.<\/p>\n Nixon said the results back what her campaign is seeing internally.<\/p>\n \u201cPeople are fed up. Folks want the government to work for them, and right now the government is working against them,\u201d said Nixon.<\/p>\n When asked about the poll, Moody\u2019s campaign declined to comment.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, the Donalds\u2019 campaign sent this statement in response to the poll.<\/p>\n \u201cByron Donalds will be Florida\u2019s next governor because he will make Florida safer, stronger, and more affordable,\u201d said Donalds\u2019 campaign Communications Director Gates McGavick. \u201cVoters will reject failed lobbyist David Jolly and his liberal high tax agenda on November 3.\u201d<\/p>\n The St. Pete Poll has shifted the outlook on the two statewide races<\/a>, moving Florida from \u201cleans Republican\u201d in the Gubernatorial race to a tossup, and from \u201clikely Republican\u201d to \u201cleans Republican\u201d in the Senate race.<\/p>\n UCF Political Science Professor Dr. Aubrey Jewett argued that\u2019s significant, because it suggests the Sunshine State may very well be in play for Democrats this election cycle, despite Republicans holding a voter registration advantage exceeding 1.5 million.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s like, oh yeah, it\u2019s a Republican Red state. Well, if you\u2019re a Republican candidate these poll numbers don\u2019t reflect that.
