(CBS12) — A 15-year-old student was arrested Tuesday after threatening Martin County High School, according to the district.

Noah Taylor, a sophomore at the school, was arrested and charged with making a false report concerning the planting of a bomb, a second-degree felony.

The threat was reported on the FortifyFL portal around 9:29 a.m. Tuesday, while a resource deputy was present.

Investigators traced the report to a student identification number associated with Taylor. When questioned, Taylor acknowledged making the report but initially claimed the report came from other students.

According to the affidavit, Taylor could not provide identifying information about the alleged students or describe their voices. The student also refused a request to search a personally owned Chromebook.

See also: Boynton woman accused of stealing $4,300 in skip-scan theft scheme that cost BJ’s $18,000

Investigators then reviewed school surveillance footage and saw Taylor walking past a bathroom with another student. That student told investigators Taylor said a tip would be created anonymously and would not be traced back to Taylor, according to the affidavit.

Taylor was advised of constitutional rights and agreed to speak with investigators. Taylor’s laptop was then confiscated as evidence.

The investigation resulted in probable cause to book the student for false report concerning planting a bomb, according to the affidavit.

Taylor was taken into custody and transported to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office jail before being transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice Juvenile Assessment Center in Fort Pierce.

The original threat was quickly determined to be a hoax, and students and staff remained safe throughout the investigation, according to the school district.

The district previously notified families that an arrest had been made after initially telling parents an arrest appeared imminent.

The Sheriff’s Office said the arrest comes after multiple hoax bomb threats involving schools in the area in recent weeks. Investigators said Taylor can only be linked to this specific threat.

“False threats are neither harmless nor funny,” Principal Lori Vogel said, adding that false threats can cause fear, disrupt learning and place a burden on students, families, school employees and law enforcement.

The Sheriff’s Office said anonymous threats made through text messages, online platforms or other electronic communications can still be traced and investigated.

MARTIN COUNTY, Fla.
