{"id":407784,"date":"2026-09-23T01:20:09","date_gmt":"2026-09-23T01:20:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/407784\/"},"modified":"2026-09-23T01:20:09","modified_gmt":"2026-09-23T01:20:09","slug":"tropical-depression-could-form-in-far-eastern-atlantic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/407784\/","title":{"rendered":"Tropical depression could form in far eastern Atlantic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Storm Fay weakened to a tropical depression before degenerating into a remnant low Tuesday as forecasters watch for a new disturbance that is expected to emerge off Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Fay formed early Sunday, southwest of the Azores, in a well-below-average hurricane season that has produced just six tropical storms and no hurricanes.\u00a0Hurricane season, which runs through Nov. 30, passed its statistical peak on Sept. 10.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s extremely unusual, of course, to get this far into the season with the Atlantic hurricane-free,\u201d Fox Weather hurricane expert Bryan Norcross wrote on his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hurricaneintel.com\/post\/inconsequential-tropical-storm-fay-spins-in-the-atlantic-while-coastal-mexico-goes-on-alert-for-polo\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hurricane Intel<\/a> blog. \u201cBut this week is only the mid-point of the hurricane season for South Florida, if you average landfall dates over the long-term record.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, a tropical wave is expected to move off western Africa late Tuesday night or early Wednesday, according to the hurricane center.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough upper-level winds are not very conducive for development, a tropical depression could form while it moves generally northwestward across the far eastern Atlantic,\u201d the hurricane center\u2019s latest advisory said.<\/p>\n<p>As of Tuesday night, the hurricane center has given it a 40% chance of developing in the next seven days and a 20% chance of developing in the next two days, increased odds from earlier in the day Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"The National Hurricane Center said a tropical wave is forecast to move off of Africa's coast by Wednesday.
