{"id":407806,"date":"2026-09-23T01:48:35","date_gmt":"2026-09-23T01:48:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/407806\/"},"modified":"2026-09-23T01:48:35","modified_gmt":"2026-09-23T01:48:35","slug":"leon-county-deputies-arrest-suspect-in-alleged-walmart-debit-card-fraud-over-700","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/407806\/","title":{"rendered":"Leon County deputies arrest suspect in alleged Walmart debit card fraud over $700"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TALLAHASSEE, Fla. &#8212; A Leon County man is facing multiple fraud-related charges after investigators said he used someone else\u2019s debit card to make more than $700 in purchases at Walmart stores in Leon County.<\/p>\n<p>The Leon County Sheriff\u2019s Office Financial Crimes Unit arrested 44-year-old Justin Thorpe on Monday, Sept. 21, following an investigation into the unauthorized use of a debit card.<\/p>\n<p>Detectives began investigating Sept. 17 after receiving a report of fraudulent transactions made using a victim\u2019s debit card. Investigators reviewed surveillance footage from two Walmart locations and said they observed the same man using the victim\u2019s debit card to make multiple purchases.<\/p>\n<p>On Sept. 21, a patrol deputy with the Homeless Outreach and Street Team encountered Thorpe near a Walmart in the 4400 block of West Tennessee Street. Investigators said Thorpe matched the suspect\u2019s description and was later identified as the man seen in the surveillance footage.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators said receipts from the fraudulent transactions were found in Thorpe\u2019s possession, along with other financial cards and personal identification belonging to other people.<\/p>\n<p>Thorpe was booked into the Leon County Detention Facility.
