Totum Market & Eatery opened last week in Tampa’s Encore District at the corner of Nebraska Avenue and Ray Charles Boulevard. The grocery store and caf\u00e9 sits between Channelside, downtown Tampa, and Ybor City.<\/p>\n

It stands next to several apartment complexes in the fast-growing area on the outskirts of downtown. Staff held a soft opening last week. They’re still stocking shelves and adding finishing touches.<\/p>\n

This isn’t your typical grocery store. Pre-prepared meals line the aisles, and local brands fill the shelves alongside a caf\u00e9, coffee bar, and bakery.<\/p>\n

Tampa resident Tina Lagassey said the new market strengthens the area. “I absolutely love that it’s a destination instead of a place where you just stop and pick up a couple of groceries,” Lagassey said, according to\u00a0FOX 13<\/a>. “You really want to hang out. It’s absolutely combining the downtown core with Channelside, with Ybor, and just bringing all the neighborhoods together. We need that central area.”<\/p>\n

The Encore District has seen growth in recent years as developers connect different parts of Tampa. Residents in surrounding apartment buildings can now walk to get food and meals without driving across town.<\/p>\n

Workers continue preparing the space. Products from local brands sit alongside traditional grocery items on the shelves.<\/p>\n

A grand opening will take place the weekend of Oct. 10 and Oct. 11.
