Green took over for former manager Carlos Mendoza<\/a> on June 26. Having been the farm director over the past two seasons, Green was the only staff member with prior managerial experience. At the time, he said it was more of a responsibility than a desire, and that he planned to return to the front office after the season. A front office role let him spend more time with his wife, Jessica, and three teenage daughters, something he had come to enjoy after moving from the dugout to the front office ahead of the 2024 season.<\/p>\nBut as a once-listless team started to play inspired baseball under the interim skipper, it became apparent that the former San Diego Padres manager was a fantastic fit.<\/p>\n
\u201cAndy has connected with and pushed our players to perform, despite the disappointment of the season,\u201d owners Steve and Alex Cohen said in a statement. \u201cOver the last several months he has brought discipline, accountability and positivity to the clubhouse, attributes we were seeking in our next manager.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Cohens aren\u2019t wrong in their assessment of Green. He was able to push the Mets, and keep pushing them, after the trade deadline, challenging them individually and motivating them as a group. One of his strongest assets as a manager is his ability to keep them focused on the day-to-day to help them understand the pressure of playing in baseball\u2019s largest market.<\/p>\n
