A father in Indiantown pulled a gun on two teens at a bus stop after his son reported being bullied. The sheriff’s office says no laws were broken by the man; a community meeting led by the NAACP followed.<\/p>\n

A confrontation at a school bus stop in Indiantown, where a father pulled a gun on two teenagers after his son reported being bullied, has sparked community discussions and involvement from the NAACP. <\/p>\n
The Martin County Sheriff\u2019s Office said the incident began last Thursday when the man\u2019s son reported being bullied. The next day, the father went to the bus stop to drop off his son and started speaking with the bus driver. According to the sheriff, two students then left the bus and confronted the father. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe dad’s got his hand up, telling them to stay back, stay back, stay back,\u201d said Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek. <\/p>\n
The sheriff explained that the father pulled out a concealed weapon when the teens approached him. <\/p>\n
\u201cThey got all the way up on him before he pulled out a concealed weapon and told them to get back, which he’s legally allowed to do. He’s legally allowed to stand his ground,\u201d Budensiek said. <\/p>\n
The two students involved, Trevor Ivory and RJ McIntyre, shared their perspective on the incident. <\/p>\n
\u201cI feel like under any circumstance, however you felt, no firearms should be displayed at a bus stop where there’s a bunch of kids on a bus looking forward to going to school,\u201d Ivory said. \u201cInstead, they had to see a man with a gun on two teenagers that they know ride the bus in the morning.\u201d <\/p>\n
The confrontation was a key topic during an NAACP community meeting held Tuesday night. The two students and their families attended the meeting, where emotions ran high. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe dad had a thousand options. He chose the wrong option,\u201d said Pam Ivory, Trevor\u2019s aunt. <\/p>\n
Jimmy Smith, president of the NAACP Martin County Branch, also addressed the situation.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe know guns aren\u2019t allowed on school property. They also shouldn\u2019t be allowed in school bus stops,\u201d Smith said. <\/p>\n
Smith added that he plans to meet with the school board and the sheriff to discuss the incident further.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe shouldn\u2019t be pointing a gun at our children,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
The sheriff\u2019s office stated that it conducted a thorough investigation and would have arrested the two teenagers if the father had chosen to press charges.<\/p>\n
However, no arrests have been made, and the sheriff reiterated that the father acted within the law.<\/p>\n
