{"id":408402,"date":"2026-09-23T16:54:09","date_gmt":"2026-09-23T16:54:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/408402\/"},"modified":"2026-09-23T16:54:09","modified_gmt":"2026-09-23T16:54:09","slug":"report-debt-heavy-brightline-approaches-chapter-11-bankruptcy-orlando-sentinel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/408402\/","title":{"rendered":"Report: Debt-heavy Brightline approaches Chapter 11 bankruptcy \u2013 Orlando Sentinel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brightline, the higher speed rail line that serves South and Central Florida, is close to filing a\u00a0Chapter 11 bankruptcy petition in an effort to restructure an estimated $1.1 billion in corporate debt, according to Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the situation.<\/p>\n<p>The filing would not disrupt the Miami-based company\u2019s daily operations, which offers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sun-sentinel.com\/2025\/09\/19\/two-years-of-brightline-bring-more-riders-challenges\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">regional train service<\/a> at stations in downtown Miami, Aventura, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, West Palm Beach and Orlando.<\/p>\n<p>Bloomberg previously reported that the company reached an agreement last month with Assured Guaranty for at least $350 million in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sun-sentinel.com\/2025\/12\/29\/brightline-seeks-to-raise-100-million-from-lenders-fort-lauderdale-garage-placed-up-for-sale\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">new loans<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A Brightline spokesman did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment Wednesday from the South Florida Sun Sentinel.<\/p>\n<p>Bloomberg also reported that a group of hedge funds holding Brightline\u2019s corporate bonds is in discussions with the Fortress Investment Group-backed railroad.<\/p>\n<p>This is a developing story, so check back for updates.
