The 43-year-old served as the vice president of strategic initiatives for three years. Before that, he was vice president of operations for after-school and summer programs.

“We appreciate Kevin’s service and contributions to Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Florida and wish him and his family well in this next chapter,” Blake Wilson, chairman of Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Florida Board of Governors, said in the statement.

On Wednesday, Carrico told Jacksonville Today that he plans to announce his next steps on Monday.

Carrico’s year-long term as president of the City Council, which ended in June, included a scandal and criminal investigation involving his role with the Boys and Girls Club. The probe appeared to focus on the close timing between an attempted Nassau County land acquisition by a Boys & Girls Clubs affiliate and Carrico’s nomination of his boss, Boys and Girls Club of Northeast Florida CEO Paul Martinez, to the JEA board.

Days after prosecutors issued a subpoena of Carrico’s records, he launched a special city council investigation into JEA in March. He accused then-JEA CEO Vickie Cavey of allowing a toxic work culture and racism at the utility. The committee’s work did not find widespread personnel issues at the city-owned utility.

Carrico’s next step?

Carrico is widely expected to run for reelection to council next year. His departure from the nonprofit comes days after Council staff announced that Carrico was named a trustee of the Spain-based World Law Foundation His role with the nonprofit, which provides organizational structure for programs promoting the rule of law globally, is voluntary.

Carrico told Jacksonville Today that during his more than 10 years at the Boys & Girls Club, the organization grew from 12 to 55 locations and its budget from $3 million to $30 million.

“It has been one of the greatest privileges of my professional life to support the mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Florida and the young people and families it serves,” Carrico said in a text message. “After more than a decade with the organization, I am incredibly proud of what we accomplished together, grateful for the relationships built along the way and confident the Club will continue changing lives throughout Northeast Florida.

“As I begin my next chapter, I’m excited to build something new and look forward to sharing more in the coming days,” he said.

Kevin Carrico, the former Jacksonville City Council president who still represents District 4, has stepped down from his…

[8
116,118,117
post-408592","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-jacksonville","tag-jacksonville","tag-jacksonville-headlines","tag-jacksonville-news
["GET
