TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Heads up, Tallahassee residents. Amazon deliveries may soon be arriving by drone.<\/p>\n
The online retail giant has been in the process of expanding its drone delivery service with the goal of being in almost 500 cities and towns by the end of this year.<\/p>\n
Although Amazon has not confirmed when the service is coming to the capital city, documents filed Friday show that a drone storage unit is set to be installed in the front parking lot of the Amazon fulfillment center on Vineyard Drive.<\/p>\n
According to Amazon\u2019s website, the company is hiring for at least three drone handlers and monitors in Tallahassee for its Prime Air service.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, in a statement to WCTV Wednesday, an Amazon spokesperson said \u201cwe are currently working with local officials and exploring opportunities to expand our fast, reliable drone delivery service to reach customers in Tallahassee and locations around the country.\u201d<\/p>\n

The service would allow customers to have their packages dropped off the same day, with most arriving within an hour.<\/p>\n
There have been concerns nationally over noise levels, privacy and past incidents such as crashes.<\/p>\n
However, some Tallahassee residents feel otherwise.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think it\u2019d be really good for people who are disabled, so that they don\u2019t have to go out and, you know and find somebody to go with them or someone to take them,\u201d Sunny Saunders, a Tallahassee resident, said.<\/p>\n
The statement shared with WCTV also said a community event will be held in the capital city in the future to give the community a chance to learn more about the service.<\/p>\n
