A judge is allowing him to live in Tallahassee while remaining on GPS monitoring, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for Oct. 6.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Former Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum is out of a treatment program but remains under court supervision as his Alabama drug case moves toward a preliminary hearing next month.

Gillum is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Oct. 6 at 8:30 a.m. in Baldwin County, according to updated case information. Such a hearing is used to determine whether there is sufficient probable cause for a criminal case to proceed.

The new hearing date represents the next step in a case that previously resulted in Gillum being jailed after his bond was revoked.

Gillum, the 2018 Democratic nominee for Florida governor, was arrested in Daphne, Alabama, earlier this year on drug charges.

Judge allows Gillum to return to Tallahassee

A Sept. 14 order from Baldwin County District Judge Scott P. Taylor provides new details about Gillum’s status.

The judge ordered Gillum released from an Aug. 14 furlough order because he had completed the treatment program.

Gillum is permitted to reside in Tallahassee, but his GPS ankle monitor must remain in place.

The court also ordered him to continue participating in color-code monitoring and to contact AltaPointe after his release for further instructions. All other existing conditions remain in effect.

The order had also reset Gillum for drug court on Sept. 24 at 8:30 a.m. at the Baldwin County Courthouse.

Gillum Bond OrderPDF previewPreview PDF

Case follows arrest, bond revocation

Gillum’s legal trouble began with his arrest in Daphne, Alabama, on drug charges.

His bond was later revoked, resulting in Gillum being taken into custody before the court permitted him to enter treatment under a furlough arrangement.

The Sept. 14 order indicates that portion of the case has now changed: the treatment program is complete, Gillum can return to Tallahassee, but he remains subject to GPS monitoring and other court-imposed conditions.

The Oct. 6 preliminary hearing could be significant because it moves the case from questions surrounding Gillum’s release conditions toward the underlying criminal allegations.

A preliminary hearing is not a trial and does not determine guilt or innocence. Instead, the court considers whether prosecutors have established probable cause sufficient for the charges to move forward.

Gillum’s next major court date is set for 8:30 a.m. Oct. 6 in Baldwin County.

Former Tallahassee mayor and 2018 Democratic nominee for Florida governor Andrew Gillum has completed a court-ordered treatment program…

[16
232,234,233
post-409378","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-tallahassee","tag-tallahassee","tag-tallahassee-headlines","tag-tallahassee-news
["GET
