A shooting at a Pompano Beach gas station that was caught on camera was still being investigated a day later as the man who was shot remained in critical condition, authorities said.

The shooting happened around 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Orion gas station in the area of East Atlantic Boulevard and Northeast 1st Avenue.

Surveillance video showed a man get into a physical altercation with a woman in a Toyota SUV parked at one of the gas station pumps.

During much of the confrontation, the driver of the SUV appears to stand nearby with his door open as the fight unfolds just feet away.

Surveillance cameras captured the dramatic moments leading up to a shooting at a Pompano Beach gas station that left one person hospitalized. NBC6’s Victoria De Cardenas reports

The man is seen walking into the gas station convenience store then leaving and walking back past the SUV, when he appears to exchange words with the driver, who pulls out a gun and opens fire, the video shows.

Broward Sheriff’s Office officials said the man who was shot was taken to a local hospital, while the driver stayed at the scene.

In a statement Wednesday, BSO officials said the man who was shot remained hospitalized in critical condition.

The identities of the people involved haven’t been released.

Officials also said Violent Crimes Unit detectives have taken statements from a witness and the shooter and have reviewed the surveillance footage.

Once the investigation is complete, detectives will forward the information to the Broward State Attorney’s Office for review to determine if the shooter will face any charges, officials said.

Former prosecutor David Weinstein said the video shows that at the beginning, the occupants of the SUV would have been allowed to use force to defend themselves but the moments just before the shooting were questionable.

“At the time this confrontation initially started, there is no doubt that this person was committing some sort of a forcible crime, a felony, against the occupant of that vehicle,” Weinstein said. “When the intruder passed in front of the vehicle again, there was really no interaction, he didn’t then charge at the people in the car. Did the driver of the vehicle really need to use the amount of force he used at that point in time, that’s where the critical question is.”

[17
1009,249,251,250
post-409884","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-fort-lauderdale","tag-caught-on-camera","tag-fort-lauderdale","tag-fort-lauderdale-headlines","tag-fort-lauderdale-news
["GET
