MIAMI GARDENS \u2014 Miami Dolphins edge defender Chop Robinson cleared concussion protocol after Wednesday\u2019s practice and is ready to play in Sunday\u2019s home opener against the Kansas City Chiefs.<\/p>\n
\u201cI feel great,\u201d Robinson said after going through another full day of participation at Thursday\u2019s practice. \u201cBack on the field, ready.\u201d<\/p>\n
Robinson will now be available to boost a Dolphins pass rush that is yet to record a sack in Miami\u2019s first two games this season.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think it\u2019ll be great. Chop is a really good player. Any time you get really good players on the grass, you\u2019re happy as a coach,\u201d defensive coordinator Sean Duggan said. \u201cHis speed, his quickness, you can definitely feel it. It\u2019s fun to have him back out there.\u201d<\/p>\n
Robinson first went into concussion protocol on Sept. 16, during the Wednesday practice in Napa, California between games out west against the Las Vegas Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs.<\/p>\n
\u201cJust a football hit and that was it,\u201d Robinson said. \u201cBack cleared, ready to go.\u201d<\/p>\n
Although it was Robinson\u2019s third concussion in the past calendar year and fifth of his career since college at Maryland and Penn State, he cleared the league\u2019s five-step protocol in a week. He went through the final stage, a full-contact practice Wednesday.<\/p>\n
\u201cOf course, I was sad about it when I was down there, against the 49ers, I couldn\u2019t play,\u201d Robinson said, \u201cbut listened to all the coaches and the training staff and I\u2019m back to it.\u201d<\/p>\n
The concussion frequency, though, will have Robinson make a change. He will start to wear a Guardian cap in games. The Guardian cap offers extra padding for an outer layer of protection over the traditional football helmet.<\/p>\n
\u201cBeing smart about it,\u201d Robinson said. In the future, I want to have kids and a family and everything. There\u2019s no harm in wearing it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Robinson arrived at that decision after talks with family and his fiancee. He started wearing it in practice this week and will use it for the first time in a game on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Robinson still plans on having a lengthy career, despite overcoming five concussions.<\/p>\n
\u201cI love the game of football,\u201d Robinson said. \u201cI\u2019m going to play as long as I can.\u201d<\/p>\n
And he hasn\u2019t heard any push to retire from those in his inner circle.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m only going into my third year,\u201d Robinson said. \u201cIf somebody would talk about that with me, I\u2019d feel some type of way about it.
